The European Union (EU) currently recognises 11 third countries (including New Zealand) as having organic production and control systems which are equivalent to the EU’s own systems. That recognition is set to expire on 31 December 2026 although the EU are presently consulting on a proposal to postpone the date of expiry to 31 December 2036. 

 

Negotiating a new trade agreement with the EU will enable New Zealand to maintain existing market access conditions for organic products after the expiry of the current recognition.
