The essential object of the Convention is to avoid the creation of future cases of statelessness. The Convention provides a framework for promoting access to citizenship for persons who would otherwise be stateless. Furthermore, the Convention seeks to protect against the loss or deprivation of citizenship if, as a result, the person will become stateless.
