The Convention creates a wide-ranging prohibition on the use of cluster munitions. The key obligations under the Convention are: to ban the use of cluster munitions; to clear any unexploded ordnance, and also to destroy any stocks held (no cluster munitions have been used in New Zealand nor does New Zealand hold any stocks); to provide assistance to cluster munitions victims; and to provide, as appropriate, assistance to other countries in meeting their obligations under the Convention.
