The Protocol to Upgrade the Free Trade Agreement between New Zealand and the People’s Republic of China (the Protocol) updated the existing FTA to reflect current trade realities. The Protocol improved upon the FTA’s existing commitments in areas such as customs procedures and trade facilitation; expanded the FTA to include new issues like environment and e-commerce; resulted in new access commitments for services exports; and addressed a number of trade barriers raised by businesses.
